Who plays on 'Sunday Night Football' tonight? Time, TV channel, schedule for NFL Week 6 game
"Sunday Night Football" has treated viewers to a couple of intense matchups in recent weeks. Week 4 saw Tom Brady and the Buccaneers take on the Patriots at Gillette Stadium. Week 5 saw the Bills earn revenge on the road against the Chiefs, who defeated them in the 2021 AFC Championship Game.
The "Sunday Night Football" matchup for Week 6 won't quite have the same star power as the last two games. Both teams playing looked good on paper coming into the season, but they each have run into some trouble.
The visiting team's issue is pretty easy to spot. They're missing their franchise quarterback, who got injured on "Thursday Night Football" next week. The home team, meanwhile, has largely sputtered on offense but played well against the Broncos last week. They also are dealing with some quarterback issues, as their long-time starter has performed at a low level this year.
The two coaches in this battle, Mike Tomlin and Pete Carroll, are two of the longest-tenured, most respected coaches in the NFL. It should be a good matchup from that standpoint.
Below is more about the Week 6 matchup, plus everything to know about how to watch "Sunday Night Football."

Who plays on 'Sunday Night Football' tonight?
- Matchup: Seahawks at Steelers
- Location: Heinz Field in Pittsburgh
The Seahawks (2-3) and the Steelers (2-3) are squaring off in a Super Bowl 40 rematch in Week 6. The Steelers are still relying on their quarterback from that game, Ben Roethlisberger, to start on offense while the Seahawks' starter from that game, Matt Hasselbeck, retired in 2015.
That said, Seattle doesn't have its usual starter at its disposal. Geno Smith will be playing in place of Russell Wilson, who will miss the first start of his NFL career in this, his 10th season. Smith hasn't started a game since he was with the Giants in 2018, but he looked good in relief of Wilson last week after Wilson injured the middle finger on his throwing hand.
Smith will face a tough test against a Steelers defense that just held the Broncos to 19 points. They are getting healthier on defense, as T.J. Watt is back from a groin injury. He will look to get pressure on Smith Sunday night.
Both teams each have a couple of great receivers. The Seahawks have DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett at their disposal while the Steelers have Diontae Johnson and Chase Claypool (JuJu Smith-Schuster is out for the season). The Steelers have the better running back at the moment with Najee Harris playing well and Chris Carson banged up, but Seattle has the better blocking.
What time is the NFL game tonight?
- Date: Sunday, Oct. 17

The Seahawks-Steelers game will kick off at 8:20 p.m. ET. The game will be at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh. Local kickoff will be the same time as the game, but it may feel a bit earlier in the day for the Seahawks, who are operating on West coast time.
