Beef Sticks safe to eat?

I'm 18 weeks pregnant and have been eating Beef Sticks we bought at Costco as a way to get some quick protein.  I'm aware they are high in sodium, so should be eaten in moderation.  It recently occurred to me maybe these are similar in risk to lunch meat and that I should not be eating them due to the risk of foodborne illnesses. I have found mixed posts online related to this.  Anyone know if beef sticks should be avoided for pregnant women?

@userdeletedalias992636337,

Thank you!  I am not eating lunch meat either and was hoping my beef sticks were okay.  Thank you for calming my worries about this.  :-)

My doctor told me that as long as things are cooked you're generally safe. She told me if I do eat lunch meat and have concerns then to heat it up, I would wonder if that's similar to a beef stick...it's a good thought though. I've been eating turkey sticks for the same reason and it didn't even cross my mind

Lunch meat is totally safe, those guidelines are outdated. Most listeria cases are from fruits and vegetables, which you most certainly can't avoid. Beef sticks are not healthy, but probably no real harm if you're craving them.

If the meat is of high quality, and the cooking process is done well, then eating beef sticks won't affect your pregnancy. Yes they are high in sodium and potassium, but not those aspects should scare you. Those elements are highly needed when you are pregnant, but the worms that are found in the meat are harmful. They travel to your internal organs and multiple inside your liver or pancreas. After that they travel to the thin intestine and multiplicate also there. But you should not be scared by those. because this happens when the meat is eaten raw or undercooked. I hope I answered your question.
